    • PIERSOL, SARAH ELIZABETH-Sarah Elizabeth Wilson was born in Indiana, April 25, 1847. She was called to her new life from the home of her daughter in Lincoln, Neb., June 18, 1937, at the age of 90 years, 1 month, and 23 days.

      While a girl, she moved with her parents from Indiana to Illinois, and lived hear Rock Island until she grew to womanhood.
      February 20, 1866, she was married to Joseph Morrison Piersol, who took up the vocation of farming. This union was blessed with five children: Minerva A. Lewis, Lucy J., Ester, and Lillian May, all living.

      From Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Pierson moved with their family to Iowa, where they farmed for a few years, then moved to Chelsea township, Fillmore county, Nebraska, in April, 1873. Here they made their home until they retired from active life. Her husband preceded her in departing this life April 16, 1911.

      Though Mrs. Piersol often spent a part of her time visiting among her children, Geneva remained her permanent address.

      Surviving her are her five children: A son, Lewis Piersol of Eagle, Neb., four daughters, Mrs. Minerva Wright of Topeka, Kas., Mrs. Lucy J. Miller of Geneva, Neb., Mrs. Ester Lyon of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Lillian May Houchin of Manville, Wyo; twenty-two grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Wilson of rock Island, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Stewart of California and Mrs. Lucinda Carlson of Alexandria, S. D. Many friends held this good woman in highest esteem.

      Mrs. Sarah Piersol was rated as a wonderful woman. Her children and her friends alike speak thus of her. She was always watching for opportunities of Christian and neighborly service and help. Many friends in and near Geneva testify to this with highest praise and commendation. She was a member of the woman's Relief Corps, and a member of the church of the United Brethren in Christ. The Chelsea church record shows her to be the fifteenth member of the first class formed in this church. Therefore, she was likely one of the charter members and remained faithful there for many years. After moving to Geneva, she transferred her membership to the Geneva United Brethren church, and was a faithful member until called to her heavenly home.
      She lived long and well, and like the ripened golden grain ready for harvest, she has been gathered into God's own garner.

      The funeral service was held at the Geneva United Brethren church at 2 p. m. Sunday, and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. J. Plymesser. Edgar Miller sang with Miss Neva Bishop as pianist. The following grandsons of the deceased served as pallbearers: Earl Miller, Darrell Miller, Roy Piersol, Harry Piersol, Harold Piersol and Fred Lyon.
      Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. (The Nebraska Signal 1937)
