    • From Cliff Canfield: "Johannes Philippi (born at Volksberg, Alsace) was confirmed in 1745. Johannes was a sponsor for a son of Johann Mortzel. See the following: Johannes, son of Johan Mortzel and Maria Salome born Windstein of Volesberg, was born 5 Oct 1748 and christened 6 Oct 1748. Sponsors were Johannes, unmarried son of the deceased Johann Georg Philippi; Johann Philipp, unmarried son of Johannn Adam Meder, and Anna Elisabetha, unmarried daughter of Jeremias Burgen, the schoolmaster. Johannes probably left his family in Volksberg in the spring of 1750 as he arrived at Philadelphia in August of that year." See more on this man later.

      Johannes Phillippi b. 9 Oct 1728 Volksberg, Alsace, Germany d. 21 Oct 1800, Wytheville, Wythe County, Virginia. John was a farmer, along with a whole bunch of our ancestors living at the same time in Wythe Co. VA. John had at least two tracts of land, 300 and 100 acres on Reed Creek in Wythe County. He is believed to have settled there in 1774.
      During the early part of the Revolutionary War, he was on an early list of militia under Capt. Buchanan. Probably too old for action. m. Eva Barbara Eichelberger 2 Aug 1757 at Brickerville, Elizabeth Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania by Rev Casper Stoever. The couple farmed there before leaving to settle in Wythe County, VA by 1774. (Barbara b. 12 Apr 1739 Lancaster Co. PA d. between 1798 and 9 Oct 1823) SEE OUTLINE ON EICHELBERGER FAMILY. The will of Johannes Phillippi is still on record in Wythe County, VA. The appraisement of the estate was dated 17 Nov 1800.
